It happened during an early-morning traffic stop, said DA Matthew Weintraub in a release. The driver allegedly "displayed a handgun" to Falls Township officers two separate times, and at one point, "fled from police in his vehicle," Weintraub claimed.
After shooting the man, police confiscated his firearm and rendered medical aid until paramedics were on-scene, according to the release. He was taken to a hospital where he underwent surgery, though his condition as of Tuesday afternoon is not clear.
Neither police officer was injured, and each was placed on "administrative leave" pending the results of the investigation, Weintraub added.
The District Attorney's Office said it will withhold the names of all involved until its review is complete.
